Always in a hurry, I never stop to worry

The whirlwind summer continues (see last post) but I am able to ride most mornings.  Hooray!  The horses have been wonderful. Pie and Sovey go bareback and on the buckle happily.  Foggy is still excited to go out as far as he can go, and he is now dropping his head and relaxing on our rides.

Brian and I ran the Harrisburg Mile on July 20. During the run, I kept thinking of Foggy racing down the homestretch with the announcer saying, "Found in the Fog - 40 to 1 - Hello!"  I was very happy with my 7:08 time (my over 40 PR) and Brian broke the tape again and won his age group.  Maizie qualified for sectionals in her Junior Team Tennis so we will be heading off to Princeton for her to play there in a week. I will miss the boys terribly.

Grooming them in the barn in the hot afternoons has brought me such peace with all the scurrying around we do. Horses are the very best way to unwind and stay balanced.

Last night it rained buckets after a few hot, dusty weeks.  I can't wait to see the three mud pies waiting for me this morning!

  2. I grew up about 10 miles north of Princeton in Hillsborough, NJ. A nice place to visit!

  3. One of the nice things about getting older (we're 66) is you can slow down a little and choose those things that give you the most life. The kids are grown and gone. For us it's our church, volunteering at a youth horse ranch and our horses - and, of course, seeing our kids and grand kids on occasion.

Grooming in the afternoons has brought me peace as well as soaked me with sweat! Val appreciates it though...

  8. Even with my new saddle I desire the bareback ( pad) ride most with bitless. They do love it best, your boys..closest to being free.

Awesome times at hand with the all personal best times and Maise's win! Wow, how fun~ and have fun...your three sons, will miss you too!

  9. It sounds like your summer is going well.
Love your photo- I can imagine I am riding my filly with the mane like that. Her neck and mane are the same color and the hair falls the exact same way.

  10. Sounds like you're having a great summer. Congratulations to all of you on your sports achievements.
I can thoroughly relate to the afternoon grooming and destressing. It's one of my favourite activities and guaranteed to keep me sane. Happy to read how well your riding is going too.

  12. My husband's family would love your family so much since they are so devoted to running! Me, I am a much better at speedwalking! And jumping rope! Did I tell you while at the beach, our fave beach concession stand was called Honeysuckle? Each time we went there I thought of you, Pie, Foggy and Sovey!
